- Introduction
-
- The BANNER MAKER program from RUBICON SOFTWARE will allow you to
- generate banners on ANY printer. The options allow for multiple
- font styles, and banners of 1, 2 or 4 lines of text. The program
- takes complete advantage of GEM (tm of DRI) and The Operating
- System (TOS). It will function with either a Color or Monochrome
- monitor in Medium or High Resolution. (It will work in Low
- Resolution on the Color monitor, but the screen will not look
- correct.) Along with the fonts supplied, most of the fonts created
- for D.E.G.A.S. (tm of Batteries Included and Tom Hudson) will also
- work with this package. The single height fonts will work, while
- double height fonts will not. I have found 60% of the fonts do
- work.
-
- MENU Items
-
- When you first start the BANNER MAKER, it creates a new set of
- menu items for the program to use. Along with the ever present
- Desk you will see five additional items (Size/Fonts/Printer/Banner
- Position/Line Selection). We will now go through the items one at
- a time.
-
- DESK
-
- If you select this, along with the normal accessories you may have
- loaded, you will see an additional item called About Banner Maker.
- Selecting this item by double clicking (TWO QUICK clicks of the
- left mouse button) will produce the following screen. To exit this
- just point at the 'OK' button at the bottom and click once.
-
- SIZE
-
- Selecting this will give you three options, (One/Two or Four
- Lines), for your banner size. The characters generated on the
- banner are automatically sized for you based on the number of
- lines selected. A four line banner can show more text than a
- single line banner. Each line can hold up to 72 characters.
-
- FONTS
-
- This menu selection allows you to select the character font you
- want to use on your banner. When the program first starts it LOADS
- the font called SYSTEM.FNT from drive A:.
-
- Normal
-
- When you select this, the system goes out to drive A: and
- reloads the font called SYSTEM.FNT. This is the font that is
- loaded at the start-up of this program.
-
- Load New Font
-
- Upon selecting this, a disk directory is presented to you on
- the screen of those files ending in .FNT. These are the
- supplied font styles for use in generating your banners.
- Selecting one of the fonts will cause it to be loaded into
- the program, and any banner created with the font will be
- printed using the new font style. The new style will not be
- shown on the screen, but it will be produced on the printer.
-
- PRINTER
-
- This selection allows you to tell the BANNER MAKER where you want
- your banner to be sent, Printer or Disk.
-
- To Disk
-
- If you select this option, the BANNER MAKER will prompt you
- for a disk file name to send the banner to. It will default
- to A:\BANNER.BNR but you can change the drive and file name
- to anything you wish. (As long as it is a valid drive, and
- follows the normal file naming conventions.) By sending your
- banner to disk, you can create the same banner over and over
- without having to re-run the BANNER MAKER. You can also send
- a file created like this to your friends so they can print
- the banner without having the BANNER MAKER program. Send
- birthday greetings, upload banners to BBS's, save your
- masterpieces to disk.
-
- To Printer
-
- As soon as you click on this item, the banner you have
- created on the the screen will be sent directly to the
- printer. Be sure your printer is ready, and that your banner
- is as you want it.
-
- BANNER POSITION
-
- This menu item gives you up to three selections. (Left Justify/
- Center Text/ Right Justify). If you select a One Line banner, then
- Center Text and Right Justify are disabled. With a banner of more
- than one line, then BOTH these options are enabled.
-
- Left Justify
-
- This will align all text on the left margin. It is the
- default upon starting the program, and the only option for a
- banner of One Line.
-
- Center Text
-
- This will center the text in any banner of more than One
- Line. Just as with a word processor, you will see the
- centering take place on the screen so that you can verify the
- text looks correct.
-
- Right Justify
-
- With any banner of more than one line, this option will align
- all the text along a right margin. The right margin will be
- formed at the text line that is longest.
-
- NOTE: Any of these options may be selected or re-selected without
- having to re-enter the text of the banner.
- LINE SELECTION
-
- This menu item informs the BANNER MAKER of which line of text you
- wish to enter. It defaults to Line 1, and Lines 2 through 4 are
- disabled if the Size option has been set to One Line.
-
- Line 1 through Line 4
-
- Selecting each line, you are then free to enter up to 72
- characters of text for that line. After pressing the Return
- key, or exceeding 72 characters, the line of text is
- transferred to the appropriate line at the top of the screen.
- To change a line already in the banner, just select the line
- again, and type the new text. Upon completion, the existing
- line of the banner will be replaced.
